perfumedrooms because. TA-DA! I kind of wanted to have Genesis tying Edgeworth's cravat for him but NO WAY IS EDGEY GOING TO LET HIM, HE CAN DO IT ON HIS OWN.
Miles Edgeworth looked at his reflection in the full-length mirror. A man with gray hair and stormy eyes stared back at him, clad in a suit as black as night, a burgundy vest, and shiny dark shoes. In one hand he held a white cravat – a far fancier one than his usual, with a red and gold gem and a fine golden chain – and in the other, a black bow tie. His forehead creased in thought, and he set down the bow tie to tie the cravat.
It was supposed to be second nature to him, tying a cravat. But tonight, his fingers were getting tangled up in the cloth. Pursing his lips, he continued; normally he would have it ready by now, but...
He tried again, keeping his mind on the cravat and nothing else, not even glancing at the clock that told anyone who would spare it a glance that it was already 6:35 PM. But he did glance at his bedroom door, which creaked open to admit the redhead who had been sharing this condo with the prosecutor for quite some time now.
“Are you nervous?” Genesis Rhapsodos asked lightly.
Edgeworth let the cravat hang from his shoulders like a scarf, giving up for the moment and quickly, rather defensively, shaking his head.
“No, why should I be?” he answered, not so lightly. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he wondered if that was even the truth.
“It's your first date, isn't it?” There was just something about the way Genesis was grinning that reminded Edgeworth of a mischievous yet proud older brother. The taller man stepped into the room to face his Meister properly. “That's understandable.”
“Y-yes, but...” I'm not nervous, Edgeworth wanted to add as he wrestled with the cravat again.
“Relax. Let me do that for you.” Genesis reached out to lift the length of cloth from the prosecutor's shoulders, but the latter quickly turned away, back to the mirror, and attempted to tame the cravat again. This time, he finally finished it the way he should have been able to in the first place, and let out a breath. There. The Weapon shrugged, his grin widening into a more amused expression, as if Edgeworth getting ready for a date was a show to be enjoyed.
“Is there a problem?” Edgeworth asked pointedly, narrowing his eyes and gesturing to his suit. He clearly did not appreciate being the object of anyone's amusement, especially not Genesis' amusement.
“Not at all. Not bad for a first date. Like I said: relax.” Genesis stressed that last word by clapping the Meister on the back, which didn't help the other man relax at all.
Edgeworth closed his eyes briefly, before opening them again to adjust his cravat. He took a breath, and took one last look at himself in the mirror. The same black-clad man looked back at him, with an expression of uncertainty. It was true that he was about to go on his first date – his first real date. Even with Genesis dropping bits of advice here and there, once again like a big brother, Edgeworth did not know what to expect, or what to prepare for. While he knew how ladies were to be treated and respected, he had no idea what would happen during a date.
He didn't like walking into a situation like this. Unprepared, and inexperienced.
“I should be leaving,” he suddenly said, striding past Genesis to leave his room.
“Isn't it a little too early?” the redhead asked, glancing up at the clock.
“It would be disrespectful to keep a lady waiting.”
“At this rate, you would be the one waiting.”
“I'd rather wait than be waited for.” Besides, leaving early would give Edgeworth extra time to be alone, think about this further, wonder how things got to this, and clear his mind. So he walked on, a little faster than usual, with Genesis not far behind. When they reached the front door, the latter nodded to the former, and winked.
“Good luck. Considering who you're dating, you'll need it.”
“I don't believe in luck. And I'm certain she doesn't, either.”
